Partnering with Whitsunday Council for Water Security

We’re thrilled to share that we recently partnered with the Whitsunday Regional Council on a vital water bore drilling project.

They’re currently focused on a 10 year plan regarding water in the region, here’s some of their initiatives below:

  • Council is drilling new raw water bores to expand the existing supply and strengthen water security and redundancy across the region.

  • A new pipeline is being constructed between Bloomsbury and Midge Point, complete with a storage tank and booster pump station, to ensure a more reliable water supply for local residents.

  • There’s also a long-term plan in place to explore recycled water options in Cannonvale, including the potential use of treated wastewater for non-drinking purposes like irrigation.

A tender was issued for Whitsunday Water Supply bore drilling works and FB Drilling was awarded the contract. So we partnered with Local Council and packed our bags and headed north.

As we worked in this stunning part of the country, the gateway to the 74 beautiful Whitsunday Islands (74!?! Can you believe it?) , we couldn’t help but reflect on what life in regional areas is really like.

Living in regional communities comes with its challenges. Access to consistent, high-quality water can be tough — and that’s just the beginning.

Infrastructure isn’t always up to scratch. Internet can be patchy.

Mobile coverage can drop out for hours.

Specialists in health or trades might mean a long drive and a longer wait.

Freight and fuel prices are often higher, and wet seasons can cut off roads, resources, and services altogether.

Even the weather is more extreme … longer droughts, harder floods, hotter summers.

But then we got to the good stuff… the stuff that matters.

The sense of community in regional areas is second to none.

Neighbours look out for each other, even if they’re 20km down the road.

There’s a grit and self-reliance that runs through everyone you meet… and when people come together, it’s not just to chat, it’s to help.

What a life!

The landscapes are absolutely breathtaking. The lifestyle is slower, quieter, and more connected to nature. Out here, you’re more likely to hear birdsong than traffic, and more likely to see the stars than the skyline.

These are the moments that remind us why we do what we do… and why living regional is something truly special.
